Something New I Learned:
Stats on what's going on in our economy right now

Borrowers with low credit scores are being hit hard by rising inflation, and a growing number are defaulting on minimum payments. The share of subprime credit cards and loans that are at least 60 days late rose for the eighth successive month in March.

And car loan and lease delinquencies have hit record highs, with nearly 9% of subprime borrowers behind on payments by at least 60 days.

Analysts say the rise in missed payments is being driven by the end of pandemic-related benefits and the rising costs of everything from gas to food.

On top of it all, more than a third of Americans say they’re struggling to pay day-to-day expenses, according to the latest Census Bureau household survey.

Ironically, on the other side of the equation a new record for U.S. home prices was set. The median price for an existing home soared once again in April to $391,200, up 14.8% from a year ago, according to CNBC.

Existing home sales fell 2.4% from the month prior, “the weakest rate since June 2020.”

The record-breaking cost for homes, and all-time lows in sales since the pandemic started, are in part due to rising mortgage rates and an ongoing shortage of inventory for sale...experts say.

Despite rising home costs and rates, Zillow reported the housing market remained “as competitive as ever” in April, with annual home value growth up 20.9% from last year.

If you have an analysis of what's going on right now in the economy hit reply tell me and it could show up with credit to you in an upcoming newsletter.

What I'm Reading
Turn Around the Ship by L. David Marquet
I bought this book as a recommendation from a friend who had read the rave reviews. I bought the audio version the other day since listening on the go is easier for me these days....so far, great book.

Recommended if you want your workplace to be a place everyone around you is taking responsibility for their actions, where people are healthier and happier, where everyone is a leader.

It's true story of how the Santa Fe submarine skyrocketed from worst to first in the fleet by challenging the U.S. Navy's traditional leader-follower approach. Struggling against his own instincts to take control, he instead achieved the vastly more powerful model of giving control. Before long, each member of Marquet's crew became a leader and assumed responsibility for everything he did, from clerical tasks to crucial combat decisions.

The crew became fully engaged, contributing their full intellectual capacity every day, and the Santa Fe started winning awards and promoting a highly disproportionate number of officers to submarine command.

Recommended. Best price I found for the book or audio version of the book here

What I'm Watching
Outlaw Origins of Mountain Biking // Born From Junk
This short film popped up in my Instagram feed the other day. Great story of how an emerging market turned into an entire industry and how those that recognized what was happening built incredible businesses.

Worth watching, crazy the pieces of junk people were using going down hill at a million miles and hour!
