About Daniela De la Parra
Daniela De la Parra is an Assistant Professor of Accounting at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She graduated from Rice University with a Ph.D. in Accounting in May, 2021.
Before joining the Ph.D. program at Rice, Daniela earned a full chess scholarship to attend the University of Texas at Brownsville, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree with a double major in Accounting and in Finance and graduated Summa Cum Laude. She was a professional chess player for 12 years and holds the FIDE title of Woman International Master in chess.
As a professor, she now teaches financial accounting to undergraduate studies, and she engages in academic research. Her research focuses on the determinants of corporate information, with an emphasis on qualitative properties of disclosures, and their implications for capital markets. She is particularly interested in applications of machine learning to Accounting research.
